Allison Williams’ ‘Girls’ Ending Is a Spinoff Waiting to Happen
We’re three episodes deep into the final season of Girls (the third of which you can watch ahead of the Oscars), but one wonders how Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna will close out the series. Allison Williams in particular had her own idea for Marnie’s (and another character’s) end, but does sharing it with Seth Meyers mean it won’t happen?
Even as the sixth season of Girls has managed to continue Marnie’s troubled marriage, star Allison Williams envisions a different spouse for Marnie in the show’s future. Speaking with Seth Meyers in promotion of new horror film Get Out, Williams shared that her and Elijah (Andrew Rannells) would likely end up together, albeit not very happily ever after:
I have a fantasy about it. I don’t know how realistic it is, but I’m just going to put it out into the universe … My dream for Marnie is that she will – after realizing that she’s simply incompatible with any man that she would date – will decide in a mutual resignation, but happy decision to marry Elijah … The nice thing about that idea of their union is they’ve already tried to have sex; it did not work. So they have that over with, they don’t need to explore that part of their relationship anymore.
And they kind of just exist in a house of song, and sass and snark, and they can have children that we already know what they’re going to look like … and I also think that they can do whatever they want outside of the marriage. But as a committed couple, I think their mutual hatred and envy and love will keep them together.
Meyers joked that HBO would pick up that spinoff in a heartbeat, but in a meantime, catch the latest episode on HBO streaming platforms, and stay tuned for more on Girls’ final season in the weeks to come.
