Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff Eyes ‘Fleabag’ Star Phoebe Waller-Bridge For Key Role
Unless you binge-watched the heck out of Fleabag on Amazon recently (you should), then you may not be particularly familiar with the name Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the brilliant creator and star of the fierce British miniseries. But that’s beginning to change, as Waller-Bridge’s talents have become increasingly notable — enough to catch the attention of Phil Lord and Chris Miller, as the filmmaking duo are currently eyeing the actress for a “key role” in the upcoming Han Solo Star Wars spinoff.
Per Variety, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is in talks to join Alden Ehrenreich in the untitled Star Wars Story, which centers on a young Han Solo’s adventures prior to the original trilogy. Although her character would be mostly CGI, Waller-Bridge’s part is described as “significant,” similar to that of C-3P0 or Alan Tudyk’s K-2SO in Rogue One. It’s unclear if that means she’d be playing a droid or an alien, but either way, Waller-Bridge has a wildly expressive face that would lend itself well to mo-cap.
The untitled Han Solo spinoff is currently filming under the production code name “Red Cup” (get it? Because Solo…) and co-stars Donald Glover as young Lando Calrissian and Woody Harrelson as Han’s mentor. Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke is also set to appear in the film, though her role remains undisclosed.
The next chapter in the Star Wars Story saga is currently set for a May 25, 2018 release, though recent rumors suggest it could be pushed back to December.
