After a derailed production, a new director, and months of marketing silence, the lid on the Han Solo mystery box has been lifted. A Super Bowl teaser and the first trailer earlier this week gave us our first peek at Solo: A Star Wars, and now more and photos details are flooding out.

Entertainment Weekly‘s latest cover story features new intel from Lucafilm’s Kathleen Kennedy about the film, its new characters, and what we can expect to see. The magazine’s cover shows off the gorgeous, flowing locks of Chewie and Alden Ehrenreich’s Han; the rest of them is fine too, but my gosh, just look at all that hair! What kind of conditioner do they use?

Kennedy describes the origin story as a “heist, gunslinger type movie,” with a little film noir and buddy comedy tossed in. As far as the western elements, we’ll actually see  Ehrenreich’s wannabe smuggler tasked with stealing something off a train in the film – we got a peek at the cool double-sided train, called The Conveyex, in the trailer. We don’t know what is stolen from that train, but we can guess it’s something essential.

Ehrenreich shared some insight on his younger version of Han. He said the one thing that separates him from Harrison Ford’s version is that Ehrenreich’s smuggler is an idealist. “He has certain dreams that he follows, and we watch how it affects him as those dreams meet new realities — realities that are harder and more challenging than he’d expected.” Kennedy piggybacked on that to add:

He might be a little more immature, he may be a little less experienced, and he may hone his cynicism over time, but he’s very wary. He needs to gain the respect of the people he interacts with, even if they’re the lowest of the low.

Emilia Clarke, who plays Qi’ra (what an awesome way to spell ‘Kira’), shared new details on her mystery woman, one Han will fall for. “She has a couple of guises, but essentially she is just fighting to stay alive,” she said. Then there’s Donald Glover’s young Lando Calirssian, who’s seen playing a game of sabacc – the game that lost Lando the Millennium Falcon to Han – in one new photo opposite two shrimp-like aliens. Look at all that swagger!

The other main newcomer to the gang is Woody Harrelson’s Tobias Beckett, who becomes a mentor figure to Han. Ron Howard described the character as “a powerful criminal, but a free agent” who helps shape Han into who he grows to be. But we mustn’t forget the most exciting addition to the Solo cast – Phoebe Waller-Bridge as the franchise’ first female droid! The Fleabag star/creator dons a motion-capture suit to play a very human-like droid known as L3-37, her name a reference to “leet” or “leetspeak,” the stylistic practice of spelling words with numerical characters.

Other new details from the EW issue include confirmation that we will indeed see Han meet Chewie in the film – Lawrence Kasdan describes the film as a love story between the two – that the Millennium Falcon will look much different, and the movie will introduce the planet Mimban into the film series, a marshland from a 1978 novel that’s no longer cannon. Solo: A Star Wars Story also stars Thandie Newton and Paul Bettany, so stay tuned for more details on their characters. The Solo solo film hits theaters May 25.
