Hot Toys’ Grand Moff Tarkin Figure Will Deal With Your Rebel Friends Soon Enough
13 years ago to the day, the world lost Peter Cushing. Best known for his roles in Hammer horror films and Star Wars, the actor has always been revered as one of England's favorites. It’s been a long time since there’s been a proper Grand Moff Tarkin action figure with a truly genuine Cushing likeness, but Hot Toys has finally managed to do justice to one of the Galactic Empire’s most brilliant commanders.
Hot Toys has been slowly doling out classic Star Wars figures alongside those of characters from the new movies. Grand Moff Tarkin is the latest Imperial agent to get the company’s renowned sixth-scale treatment. Though he doesn’t come with many accessories, as Tarkin didn’t do much but glower and order people around in A New Hope, this is still one of the best, most accurate figures the company has released under the Star Wars banner.
The attention to detail in the crisp green uniform sets the whole thing off, but it truly comes down to the portrait to make this a memorable figure. Cushing’s sharp features are rendered with tremendous accuracy. The sculptors even managed to capture all the fine detail of the aging actor without making him look too clean or too wrinkled. Balancing that line for a figure is no easy task, but it’s one Hot Toys’ team walked carefully and well.
In addition to the solo figure, Hot Toys is also releasing a two-pack featuring the new Tarkin figure alongside a revamped version of its New Hope Darth Vader. This Vader comes with almost all the same bells and whistles of the original release, including his torture droid and a LED light-up lightsaber. He will not come with the LED chest plate or sounds as the standalone version did, but it’s still a solid Vader figure nonetheless.
The Hot Toys Star Wars Grand Moff Tarkin sixth-scale figure is available for pre-order now from Sideshow Collectibles for $235, and is expected to arrive in Q3 2018. Likewise, the Hot Toys Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader sixth-scale two-pack is available for pre-order for $470, and is also due in Q3 2018.
