One of the biggest questions following Star Wars: The Force Awakens was that of Rey’s parentage. She could be a Skywalker a Kenobi, a Hutt…we just don’t know. Well at least we don’t know. There’s one guy that knows: J.J. Abrams. Which shouldn’t be a surprise because, duh, J.J. Abrams wrote the movie.

At a Television Critics Association panel for his new Hulu series 11.22.63, Abrams confirmed, according to Entertainment Weekly, that he knows who Rey’s parents are in Star Wars mythology. “I know quite a bit,” Abrams, the man who directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens and will produce Star Wars: Episode 8, told the crowd, resisting the urge to add, “OBVS”. The news spread like wildfire across the internet, people momentarily forgetting that J.J. Abrams conceived of the central mystery of Rey’s parents in the first place, so of course he would know the answer.

So OK, J.J. Abrams, the godfather of the new Star Wars trilogy, knows who Rey’s parents are, is this something that he could talk about in that moment?

Obviously it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is Rian [Johnson]’s story to continue now. The last thing I’m going to do is reveal something that he would be upset about. I want to make sure that Rian gets the courtesy that he showed me.

In other, not-at-all shocking news, J.J. Abrams, King of the Mystery Box, does not want to reveal a massive Star Wars spoiler to a group of reporters. Maybe it’s time we stop asking J.J. Abrams, the man WHO LITERALLY KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT THE NEW STAR WARS MOVIES if he knows things about the new Star Wars movies and then asking him to tell us. C’mon, it’s obviously time to start asking Rian Johnson is he knows who Rey’s parents are and if HE will tell us who they are.
