While many have been focused on the tight race for Best Actor at the 2015 Oscars, the Best Actress category was just as equally close. But one nominee stood out among the rest: Julianne Moore has just received the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 2015 Oscars for her powerful role in the poignant drama Still Alice.

Moore beat out fellow nominees Rosamund Pike for Gone Girl, Marion Cotillard for Two Days, One Night, Reese Witherspoon for Wild and Felicity Jones for The Theory of Everything. Moore, who has previously been nominated for her leading and supporting roles three times at the Oscars, has finally received the recognition from the Academy that she deserves. The actress delivered an immensely moving performance in Still Alice as a linguistics professor coping with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Moore recently won the award for Best Actress for her role in Still Alice at the 2015 Golden Globes, where she was also nominated for Best Actress for her part in David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars.
