‘The Last Man on Earth’ Flashback Reveals Grim Trump Administration Future
Three seasons in, The Last Man on Earth has revealed little of its history, only occasionally referencing the fact that the series takes place some time after 2023. As such, the Will Forte apocalypse comedy occasionally gets to have fun with our future history, as last night revealed the fate of the 46th president, and his entire staff.
You’re warned of full spoilers for Sunday’s Last Man on Earth return, though “Got Milk?” focused almost exclusively on Kristen Wiig’s character, who lived through the virus with much more luxury than we ever saw of Phil Tandy Miller. Along the way, news reports revealed that The Last Man on Earth indeed follows our political reality through 2019, as the virus first claimed President Michael Pence, followed by replacements Paul Ryan, Rex Tillerson, Steve Mnuchin, Jeff Sessions and Betsy DeVos.
No actual mention was made of the circumstances surrounding Pence’s ascension to the Presidency, though given the virus was supposed to hit in 2019, we can safely presume the current President was removed from office midway through his term. An interesting aside; where Kristen Wiig’s guest spot as Pamela Brinton garnered the most attention, “Got Milk?” managed to sneak in Laura Dern as a rival socialite, akin to how Jon Hamm’s casting flew in under the radar last year.
In any case, the remainder of Season 3 will follow Wiig as she tries to meet up with Forte’s band of characters, but what other easter eggs of The Last Man on Earth future might we see?
