We’re Finally Getting a LEGO Voltron (And It Looks Amazing)
Major news from the world of multi-colored plastic building blocks: There's going to be an official Voltron LEGO set!
LEGO just announced the results of its latest Ideas Review — in which fans submit ideas for potential new LEGO sets, everyone votes on them, and if there’s enough support, LEGO makes the set — and the big winner this time around is everyone’s favorite Defender of the Universe, Voltron. LEGO fan designer Leandro Tayag (AKA len_d69) concocted a spectacular-looking recreation of the beloved super-robot from the classic ’80s cartoon and the current reincarnation on Netflix. Take a look at these specs:
And here are the five individual lions side-by-side, which really helps give a proper perspective on their various sizes:
(Keep in mind that the images above are fan-created and not necessarily what LEGO will eventually produce. But we hope they stick close to this overall look because it absolutely nails Voltron.)
Leandro, 41, lives in Malaysia and is, obviously, a huge Voltron nut. “I’ve always been a big fan of super-robots from the ’70s/’80s,” he explained in an interview. “My parents bought a Voltron toy for me when I was a child, and I have been hooked on it ever since.”
Voltron beat out a bunch of other solid ideas we wouldn't mind piecing together, too. (Seriously, who wouldn't love a LEGO Hulkbuster or Iron Giant?) But LEGO slipped in another bit of intriguing news about the next round of Ideas. Fans have submitted, and LEGO is now reviewing, projects inspired by The Blues Brothers, Power Rangers, TRON and The Office.
Here you can see thumbnails of the 11 projects under consideration:
We’ll find out later this fall, when LEGO announces the next round of winners, if a little yellow Michael Scott will soon decorate cubicles across America.
