If you're like us, you've watched the 'Man of Steel' trailer a few times already this morning. And, like us, you came away thinking, a) this is a great trailer and b) what's that music playing in the background? We did a little research and found out what the 'Man of Steel' trailer song is.

While the 'Man of Steel' trailer song sounds as if it might be one of Hans Zimmer's new pieces composed specifically for the film, it's actually an existing work.

The song is titled "Elegy" and it's performed by Lisa Gerrard and Patrick Cassidy. If Gerrard's haunting vocals sound familiar, that's because you've likely heard her voice before. The former new age pop singer (she was part of the Aussie band Dead Can Dance) has contributed vocals to the 'Gladiator' score for which she won a Golden Globe with...Hans Zimmer. Will Gerrard return to contribute to Zimmer's 'Man of Steel' score? She hasn't been confirmed yet but this is a good start.

If you're wondering what exactly Gerrard is saying in the song, don't try to figure it out. It's mostly gibberish - what singers like to refer to as "idioglossia" which is essentially a made-up language.

You can listen to the entire version of "Elegy" from the 'Man of Steel' trailer below.

UPDATE: And as David Burnett notes in our comments below, the song heard in the 2nd half of the trailer is "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" by Craig Armstrong, which we've added below.
