Ocean’s Eight has already assembled one heck of an ensemble cast; it’s like the Avengers of female actors, bringing so many of our favorites together for a mega-crossover of talent. Although the original plan to have George Clooney play a small role in the upcoming spinoff was ultimately nixed, it looks like another Ocean’s star will have a cameo to help tie the new film to Steven Soderbergh’s previous trilogy.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Matt Damon revealed that he’s filming a small part in Ocean’s Eight. Damon adds that he hasn’t read the script just yet, so he can’t offer specific details about his cameo, though it’s safe to assume that he’s reprising the role of young con-artist Linus Caldwell. The actor also commented on the ensemble cast, which he describes as “phenomenal” (he’s not wrong), and includes Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna and Neighbors 2 fave Awkwafina.

Free State of Jones director Gary Ross is helming Ocean’s Eight based on an idea he pitched to Soderbergh — the two directors are longtime friends, and Soderbergh even did some second unit work for Ross on the first Hunger Games movie. Soderbergh sadly isn’t lending his cinematography or editing services, but he is co-producing the film alongside Clooney.

The new spinoff centers on Bullock’s character, who puts together a team of skilled con-artists and thieves to pull off an ambitious heist at a high-end fashion event. It was initially reported that Bullock would be playing the sister of Danny Ocean, but Clooney’s supporting role in the film was ultimately written out to keep the focus on the new female cast. It’s unclear if Bullock’s role is still related to Clooney’s in the Ocean’s trilogy, but Damon’s cameo should ensure that the spinoff remains connected to its predecessors.

Ocean’s Eight is scheduled to hit theaters on June 8, 2018.
