We can all agree that Fantastic Four was far from great, a CG-saturated mess with a few good character moments eclipsed by all those rumors about Josh Trank. And while Fox has taken the sequel off the table (for now), there’s at least one person who’d be down to return for Fantastic Four 2: Michael B. Jordan.

Jordan previously worked with Trank on his feature debut, Chronicle, so it does make some sense that the actor would be a bit softer about the failures of Fantastic Four, as he is in his interview with IGN. Jordan has a very thoughtful response to how the film turned out, and says that following it up with Creed definitely made things easier for him:

I look back at the film as a learning experience. Every film isn’t going to be a home run. Everybody involved didn’t set out to make a film that didn’t work. I think everybody wants to do the best job possible. I think it was a big education for me to realise that things aren’t in your control, and you can do everything you’re supposed to do. You can give 110% every day, and the movie still not work out. But that may or may not be on you and you’ve got to be OK with that. Moving onto the next thing. For me, first thing off I had this project [Creed] coming on right after so it makes it a little bit easier to swallow.

Surprisingly, he says he’d be open to returning for the sequel, if it ever happens:

I love the character. I’m a big comic book fan, and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to do it in the first place. We’ll see what happens…Johnny Storm is an incredible character. Why not?

To be fair, Jordan was one of the film’s few highlights, and his efficacy as an actor was only further cemented in the far-better Creed. Unfortunately, when the Oscar nominees were announced this past week, Jordan’s name — along with that of director Ryan Coogler — were suspiciously absent, as were any other people of color. The only person to receive a nom for Creed was Sylvester Stallone, the one prominent white person in the film.

Still, Jordan’s powerful turn in the Rocky follow-up (and his similarly great role in Coogler’s Fruitvale Station) has made him an actor to watch, and guarantees that we’ll be seeing more exciting things from him soon. But a Fantastic Four sequel? Don’t count on it.
