Corporate synergy at work: IMAX screenings of Terminator Genisys, which is being distributed by Paramount Pictures, will open with a five minute preview of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, also a Paramount release. It’s a smart move! Because c’mon, is anyone who pays to see Terminator Genisys on the biggest screen possible going to complain about an extended tease of the new Tom Cruise action? Of course not.

Although Terminator Genisys technically opens on July 1, the actual screenings will begin at 7:00 P.M. on June 30. So if you have to be the among the first to see Arnold Schwarzenegger’s latest time traveling cyborg adventure, you will also be among the first to see extended footage from Tom Cruise’s latest death-cheating spy romp. Heck, both movies seem like they’d make an ideal double feature since they both feature seemingly immortal movie stars doing what they do best.

The only real issue here is the serious possibility that Mission: Impossible could upstage the main event. Those who saw Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in IMAX theaters still wax poetic about the experience, which was nothing short of breathtaking. WIth its practical stunts and huge, real world scope, Christopher McQuarrie’s entry in this ever-evolving franchise feels made for a massive screen in a way that Terminator Genisys does not.

Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation opens in theaters on July 31.
