Bobby Cannavale Joins ‘Mr. Robot’ For Season 3, Now Eyed for Fall

If you thought perhaps we were overdue for Mr. Robot news, you weren’t wrong. Not only do we now know that Elliot and fsociety will be back for Season 3 later than expected, but they’ll also have Bobby Cannavale and a new series regular in tow.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Mr. Robot Season 3 has been pushed back to October 2017, despite its usual summer airdate. Cannvale’s role is being kept under wraps beyond “a laconic, no-nonsense used car salesman,” though we at least know the Boardwalk Empire and Vinyl star will serve as a series regular, now joined by a promoted B.D. Wong as well.

Creator Sam Esmail will again direct all ten episodes, taking the extra time to steady the series creatively, given the mixed reception of Season 2. Says NBCUniversal Cable, unhelpfully:

Season 3 of Mr. Robot will engage viewers in a whole new way, with Sam and team continuing to find ways to surprise, challenge and delight the audience.

Having most recently joked about a script leak, Esmail stated before the election that Season 3 would draw heavily on the charged climate akin to Trump outrage, if not necessarily featuring the man himself:

The sentiment and the outrage and the support of Donald Trump; the groundswell by which he rose to become the Republican nominee, that sort of atmosphere is going to be used in the Mr. Robot universe and amplified by this great economic collapse which is happening like a slow car accident. What you’re seeing is the events that stoked those (Trump-like) sentiments … There will be a lot of overlap. The increased terrorism and domestic violence that has gone on, a lot of that will play into the Mr. Robot universe.

We’ll see if Mr. Robot Season 3 manages to recapture that frenetic first year, but what other surprises should we expect?
