‘Neighbors 2’ Trailer: It’s Parenthood Versus Sisterhood
A great poet once said that girls just want to have fun. And now several more great artists are out to prove it with Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
In this sequel to the 2014’s massive comedy hit ($270 million worldwide against a budget of just $18 million), Chloë Grace Moretz stars as a college student fed up with the restrictive rules against sororities. They can’t even throw their own parties! So she forms her own hard-charging sorority with a few friends. Girl power! There’s just one problem: They move their new organization next door to Mac and Kelly Radner (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) who are looking to sell their house, and worry that their property value is going to go down the toilet faster than the contents of a college kid’s stomach after they join the Century Club. What’s a motivated seller to do? Recruit their old arch-nemesis Teddy (Zac Efron) to help them fight their new neighbors.
This might not be the most original premise for a comedy, but it certainly seems like a smart way to extend the Neighbors formula into a second movie. And you’ve got director Nicholas Stoller back to guide the alcohol-fueled madness one more time. I also laughed very hard at the leads trying to spell “sorority.” (That is a tough word.) But what are they going to do for Neighbors 3 when this one inevitably makes another $270 million? I say you have Mac and Kelly sell their house, only to discover their new home is right next to ... a home owned by a swingers’ club. Or maybe a prison? Or maybe a prison populated by former sex addicts? There’s a few ways they could go with this.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising opens in theaters on May 20, 2016.
