With Force Friday II comes the “Journey to The Last Jedi” expansion of the Star Wars universe: a whole slew of novels and comics that will provide the backstories and fleshings-out of many of our favorite new trilogy characters. One of those, Captain Phasma, will be getting her own novel titled Phasma, which will explain a little more of just how exactly Brienne of Tarth came to join the First Order.

Phasma, like Boba Fett and various other minor Star Wars characters who look way cooler than they have any right to given that they barely do anything onscreen, is in desperate need of some actual character. She’ll probably be getting more screen time in The Last Jedi, given that she’s the coolest looking Stormtrooper around, and she’s getting an entire origin book to herself, which gives her a very Mad Max-esque backstory.

Delilah S. Dawson’s new novel Phasma introduces us to a Phasma who has not yet been indoctrinated into the First Order, though not for long. She grew up on Parnassos as a technology scavenger, competing with rival tribes to collect and hoard bits and pieces of crashed spacecrafts to try to make their way off-planet. It seemed like she’d be stuck on that trash world forever, before General Hux’s father Brendol Hux, the man behind the First Order’s new Stormtrooper program, crash-lands on her planet and offers an escape.

StarWars.com has the full passage from the book if you’re interested in checking it out. Phasma, along with a ton of other novels, comics, and toys, will be available on Force Friday II, September 1.
