'The Perks of Being a Wallflower' has to be many things to many people. For fans of the acclaimed novel, it has to live up to the images they cooked up in their head. For Summit, it has to prove that they can deliver films that don't have 'Twilight' in the title. For Emma Watson, it has to give her career life beyond the 'Harry Potter' franchise. For Ezra Miller, it has to prove to audiences that he can play roles beyond bow wielding psychopaths named Kevin. The film isn't out until September, but we can start here with a new poster and clip.

For those unfamiliar with the book, here's the official description:

"This is the story of what it's like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie's letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives. We may not know to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite."

Since writer/director Stephen Chbosky also wrote the original novel, you can bet that the film will do everything it can to stay close to the tone and story of the book. However, tone and story tend to get lost when you premiere the first footage from your movie in a brief snippet during an MTV red carpet event, especially when this footage exists solely to pimp your trailer premiere. Here's the clip for the interested parties in the audience:

Hmm...sounds like the full trailer may be online in the next few days.

And here's the poster, which emphasizes the young stars of the film and provides a pretty nifty tagline. Is that line from the book? Any readers want to fill us in?
