The ‘Scary Movie’ Team Is Working on a ‘Star Wars’ Parody
Well I suppose it’s about time. Movie parodies are the kind of industry that’s always there, creeping under the surface of the Hollywood franchise machine, waiting to snap up a property ripe for lampooning. The duo behind all of the Scary Movies and Twilight parody Vampires Suck are launching themselves to a galaxy far, far away for Star Wars sendup Star Worlds Episode XXXIVE=MC2: The Force Awakens the Last Jedi Who Went Rogue.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer announced their new project in time for sales to start at the Berlin Film Festival. Their most recent effort was 2015’s Superfast! based on, surprise, surprise, the Fast & Furious series. These movies aren’t particularly hilarious, usually relying on easy visual gags to please their high school-age audiences, and, to be fair, Spaceballs already kinda owns the Star Wars parody niche anyway. But hey, these movies are cheap to make and people will go see them, and with Star Wars fever hitting us every twelve months or so these days, the time is right for a sendup.
Friedberg and Selzer are already working on a Taken parody called Who the F#@k Took My Daughter? which is admittedly a funny title and is bound to have an hour-long spoof on Liam Neeson’s “I will find you and I will kill you” speech. That project is filming now, so we can probably expect to see Star Worlds sometime next year.
