Back in 2013 while announcing the Oscar nominations, Seth MacFarlane made an interesting and pointed joke at Harvey Weinstein’s expense. Now, with the scandal around Weinstein and allegations of decades of sexual harassment and assault growing by the day, MacFarlane has revealed the troubling personal story behind his barb.

Ahead of the Family Guy creator’s 2013 stint as Oscar host, MacFarlane made brief reference to the now-disgraced Weinstein in addressing the Best Supporting Actress nominees, stating “Congratulations, you five ladies no longer have to pretend to be attracted to Harvey Weinstein.” The moment in question took place in first announcing the nominations themselves, as seen below:

The clip naturally resurfaced in light of myriad accounts of sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein, and MacFarlane came forward to clarify that Ted star and Family Guy voice Jessica Barth’s experience with Weinstein inspired the remark.

MacFarlane and Barth’s accounts are among many shared this week with regard to Weinstein. Everyone from Meryl Streep to Tom Hanks has acknowledged Weinstein’s heinous acts, with others like Terry Crews and James Van Der Beek stepping up to relay similar experiences with other, unnamed power players in the industry. (It’s worth remembering that MacFarlane himself came under fire at the 2013 Oscars for the infamous “We Saw Your Boobs” musical number.) Stay tuned for the latest as the Harvey Weinstein scandal continues to unfold.
