‘SNL’ Preview: Jim Parsons Hits Bobby Moynihan With a Laugh Track
Yesterday brought a treat for 'SNL' fans with news that 'Girls' creator and star Lena Dunham would make her hosting debut with The National on March 8, but we've got one major debut to go first -- 'The Big Bang Theory' star Jim Parsons! The first promos have arrived for the multiple Emmy winner's hosting debut alongside musical guest Beck, and Bazinga! They're pretty great.
Running near of a full five minutes, the 'Big Bang Theory' star's 'SNL' debut promos, of course, capitalize on Parsons' sitcom stardom, cleverly employing a laugh track against cast member Bobby Moynihan and playing out Sheldon Cooper's groan-worthy catchphrase "Bazinga!" The pair even sneak in an Olympics gag, ice dancing throughout studio 8H, after Moynihan hazes Parsons by selling him an elevator pass.
Elsewhere, the March 1 installment will presumably see head writer Colin Jost in his first ‘Weekend Update’ appearance opposite Cecily Strong, following Seth Meyers‘ departure from the program for ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers.’ Also worth noting is that Parsons will next be seen in HBO’s Ryan Murphy-directed original film adaptation of ‘The Normal Heart’ play, alongside such other Hollywood stars as Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts and Taylor Kitsch. The film is scheduled to debut this spring.
Well, punk, what are you waiting for? Catch Jim Parsons' 'SNL' debut in the promos above, and tell us if you'll tune in for the March 1 premiere.
