Original Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew seemed unlikely to reprise his role in the upcoming 'Star Wars: Episode 7,' given that he only recently underwent double knee-replacement surgery and needs ample time to recuperate. However, the actor is not only hellbent on walking again in a timely fashion, but to also bring back our favorite Wookiee.

Mayhew is currently filming 'Standing In The Stars: The Peter Mayhew Story,' a documentary on the actor and his struggles with gigantism (he stands at 7 feet and 3 inches), in which his surgery is recorded. In the midst of production, the film's director, W. Ryan Ziegler, relayed a message from Mayhew to Bleeding Cool, saying, "I intend to pursue the role of Chewbacca for 'Episode 7.'"

This comes after a casting call for an "untitled studio feature" made the online rounds, calling for a "male 7 ft to 7.3 ft tall with a slim/thin build and upright posture. Not too worked out or too 'thick set' especially in the shoulders. Broad facial features would be a bonus." Chatter was quickly incited, suggesting Lucasfilm was looking to recast the famous Wookiee, though, of course, details are still under wraps.

Aside from talk that Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford would all reprise their roles for 'Star Wars: Episode 7,' some other original players who expressed a desire to return are Ewan McGregor, Samuel L. Jackson and original C-3PO Anthony Daniels. But what do you think? Do you want to see the original Chewie, Peter Mayhew, make a comeback?

'Star Wars: Episode 7' is aiming to hit theaters in 2015.
