'Star Wars: Episode 7' remains hidden and locked away in J.J. Abrams' mystery box, but the upcoming animated series 'Star Wars Rebels' has been steadily releasing character information and trailers over the past few months. The latest footage comes straight from WonderCon, where a clip from the series was unveiled.

Taking place between 'Star Wars: Episode III' and 'Star Wars: Episode IV,' the series looks to fill the gap left by 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars,' telling the story of the ragtag group that first stood up against the evil forces of the Empire. It's an area of 'Star Wars' history that has been ignored in the movies and on TV, so it should provide fertile ground for fresh and interesting stories.

The star of the footage is Hera, the Twi'lek pilot whose ship, Ghost, looks to be the Millennium Falcon of the series. The clip is brief, but it sells a show that will undoubtedly appeal to younger 'Star Wars' fans and their parents. Some die hard fans may take issue with the slightly goofy tone and humor on display, but with additional live action films on the way, we're glad that someone is making something for the kids.

Here's the official synopsis for the show:

‘Star Wars Rebels’ continues the epic tradition of the legendary ‘Star Wars’ saga with all-new exciting, action-packed adventures. It is a dark time in the galaxy, as the evil Galactic Empire tightens its grip of power from world to world. As the series begins, Imperial forces have occupied a remote planet, ruling with an iron fist and ruining the lives of its people.

But there are a select few who are brave enough to stand up against the endless Stormtroopers and TIE fighters of the Empire: the clever and motley crew of the starship “Ghost.” Together, this ragtag group will face threatening new villains, have thrilling adventures, and become heroes.

'Star Wars Rebels' will premiere on the Disney Channel this Fall. You can also check out an interview with the show's composer below.
