Starz’s ‘Outlander’ TV Series Releases First Trailer and Photos, Second Season On the Way?
A literary phenomenon we can get behind without any shirtless vampires, werewolves or BDSM, Starz's forthcoming 'Outlander' TV series adaptation from 'Battlestar Galctica' creator Ron Moore opened the floodgates this past weekend, releasing its first trailer and several new photos for fans of Diana Gabaldon's books to salivate over. Plus, is a second season already ordered?
‘Outlander’ tells the story of married World War II combat nurse Claire (Caitriona Balfe), who accidentally steps back in time to the year 1743 where she is “immediately thrown into an unknown world of adventure that sends her on the run and threatens her life.” Claire is forced to marry a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior named Jamie (Sam Heughan), igniting a passionate affair that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. The ‘Outlander’ series of books have sold over 20 million copies with an eighth novel in the series that hit shelves in late 2013.
We can't see very much by the full trailer, though the photos do give away a strong sense of the period design, as well as our first look at 'Game of Thrones' star Tobias Menzies as the cruel "Black Jack Randall." Elsewhere, the series hast yet to receive an official season 2 pickup, as tends to be the case with Starz series, though showrunners believed it very likely from the recent TCA press tour panel.
We're still waiting on an exact premiere date, but check out the 'Outlander' trailer and photos above and below, and give us your impression in the comments!
