After moving over 500,000 copies since its June 5 release, State of Decay has become the fastest selling game on Xbox Live Arcade not named Minecraft.

A half-million downloads in two weeks is no small potatoes, but the open-world zombie survival sim may see even more impressive sales numbers when it finally arrives on Steam, too. Undead Labs isn't done with tinkering with State of Decay on the Xbox 360 just yet either, and has designs on adding a sandbox mode, which would be an even tougher survival experience.

"We're thrilled and humbled that gamers are embracing the game," said Jeff Strain, co-founder of Undead Labs and executive producer on State of Decay, to Xbox Wire in an interview. "Record breaking sales are great, but the thing we're proudest of is that people who bought the game are having a great time playing it. That's why we do what we do, and what keeps us going back in to do it again."

Though the game has had some issues from the first title update released last week, Undead Labs is working on a fix to release in another patch. Hopefully the wait won't be too long, and we can get back to living our virtual lives in the zombie apocalypse.
