The threat of a worldwide supervirus would put anyone on edge, but the cast of Syfy’s Helix won’t have that problem for much longer. Just weeks after its second season finale, Syfy has confirmed that Ron Moore-produced viral thriller Helix has firmly been eradicated from the lineup.

The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news, adding that the once 2.8-million strong Syfy series had slipped to a Season 2 average of 563,000 total viewers, with its series finale coming in at around 440,000 total viewers.

For those unfamiliar with the series written by Cameron Porsandeh, Syfy’s Helix followed a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility. The series starred The Killing vet Billy Campbell as emotionally troubled CDC pathologist Dr. Alan Farragut, Hiroyuki Sanada (The WolverineLOST) as the mastermind in charge of the top-secret arctic research, along with Kyra Zagorsky as Walker, Farragut’s estranged wife.

The second season had also added Steven Weber and relocated to a more island setting after its arctic first season, but to no avail. Should Syfy have affected a wider spread of Helix to prevent its two-season cancellation?
