The Maze Runner was a surprisingly entertaining little movie that probably never needed a sequel. But, this is a post-Harry Potter and -Hunger Games era and everything needs to be a trilogy. Much of this was pre-determined before the original film hit theaters, as the books were written as a trilogy and Fox picked them up, hoping they’d have their own teen-oriented, dystopian future movie. And, now they do. Today, we have our first look at the Maze Runner sequel, The Scorch Trials, which looks like it’s missing almost all the charm of the original film.

Teen Wolf and Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien has rapidly become a talent to watch — the young actor was rumored for the part of the new Spider-Man in our post-Andrew Garfield world, and while that didn’t pan out, O’Brien has just landed a pretty sweet gig instead. The actor has been cast opposite Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg’s upcoming Deepwater Horizon movie, which isn’t a bad way to transition from YA to more mature projects.

According to some reports (but not others), Sony has found the filmmaker to restart the Spider-Man franchise one more time, with The Sinister Six writer/director Drew Goddard swinging off of that project and onto a new Spider-Man franchise. But that still leaves the issue of who will play the new Peter Parker. Latino Review’s report on the Goddard rumor claimed they wanted a “new actor, probably an unknown” who’d start off in high school and grow with the part “a la Harry Potter.”

Fox was so confident that 'The Maze Runner' would be a success that, earlier on, it greenlit it's sequel, 'The Scorch Trials,' based on James Dashner's second installment in his dystopian novel series. Following the film's box office success this opening weekend, though, the studio wants a quicker turnaround and has now slated the sequel for release in 2015, while revealing a first look at what's to come.

This weekend, you now have a choice: You can continue to solve your favorite maze puzzles in the privacy of your own home or you can watch a movie about mazes. No matter how you break it down, this is a very exciting and difficult decision. Hopefully, that decision will become a little easier after we answer every question that you could possibly have about ‘The Maze Runner.’
