Darkness has officially fallen on The Strain, and not even the light of a July premiere may lift it. The fourth and final season of FX’s Guillermo del Toro-adapted vampire drama has an official summer debut date, and an ultra-bleak new synopsis picking up after Season 3’s nuclear finale.

Even as Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain was eagerly anticipated for a live-action adaptation, few would argue that the FX series has lost some steam in its second and third years. Prior reports from del Toro capped the series around five seasons, but FX will officially eradicate the infection after four next year.

It’s easy to forget that the first two seasons of FX’s Guillermo del Toro-fueled The Strain only take place over a matter of weeks, but by the time Season 3 begins, the threat is already starting to evolve. Strigoi are faster, smarter, and of course even uglier in a new two-minute sneak peek from the forthcoming season.

This week will mark the first Comic-Con 2016 with Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain previewing a season not already in progress, but new bits of footage have started to eke out ahead of a full trailer. It looks like The Master is literally on the warpath, as new Season 3 promos see the military about to be overwhelmed by the Strigoi threat.

We might not have any eye-worms on the billboards this year, but that won’t stop The Strain from grossing out FX viewers anew in Season 3. The first real Season 3 trailer has arrived, bringing fear and confusion to the vampire-ridden streets of New York a mere 23 days after the outbreak.

Whatever you make of FX’s Guillermo del Toro-adapted vampire thriller The Strain, the vampire apocalypse isn’t about to end with Team Eph’s current run. The network has officially infected the series with a Season 3 renewal, bringing more eye-worms and towering Strigoi to New York City streets in 2016.
