Pixar may get most of the headlines, but fans of slightly more off-beat animation have always loved the movies released by Laika Studios. With a list of movies that includes Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, Laika has a string of critical hits that focus on the supernatural and magic experience of growing up. And while Kubo and the Two Strings brings their movies to unprecedented heights — our own review called it the best Laika movie yet  —  a new interview with director and Laika CEO Travis Knight made it clear we shouldn’t expect to see any sequels anytime soon.

There’s a particular scene in ‘The Boxtrolls’ that truly exemplifies the bravado of Laika – an almost “I don’t give a f---” attitude toward focus groups and the societal norms of what an animated films should be. The problem is, this scene can’t be described in its full detail because it would be considered a spoiler. Let’s just say that, instead of redemption – a theme we see quite often in animated films – a character explodes. He literally explodes off this mortal coil with no chance of any kind of redemption ever again … or breathing, for that matter.

‘The Boxtrolls’ – which hit Hall H on Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con -- is the third feature film from Laika, the stop motion animation studio that brought the world ‘Coraline’ and the wonderful ‘ParaNorman.’ Honestly, I cannot get enough of these movies, and Laika is quietly becoming the most unique animation studio working today. (Pixar’s last three films have been ‘Monsters University,’ ‘Brave,’ and ‘Cars 2,’ which is not exactly that studio’s best work. And, yes, I realize ‘Brave’ won an Oscar, but that was a travesty.) Anyway, here are our seven favorite moments from ‘The Boxtrolls’ Comic-Con panel.

We've got a brand new trailer for 'The Boxtrolls,' the new film from Laika, the animation studio that brought us the dark and quirky hits 'ParaNorman' and 'Coraline,' and this one looks jut as insanely inventive and totally cute. Who knew trolls could be so adorable?

There are plenty of contradictions in the new trailer for 'The Boxtrolls.' First, how could the title characters be so ugly but so cute? Second, how can environments that gray and depressing be rendered so beautifully? We've seen plenty of trailers for this film so far and each time, this thing looks a little more charming and the stop-motion animation a little more beautiful. Can this be the thir

Now that CG-animated films are more common, stop-motion has become more magical than it ever has before. Laika is a studio that built its name on doing this kind of work better than anyone else, creating modern gems like 'Coraline' and 'ParaNorman.' Can their latest effort, 'The Boxtrolls,' live up to their legacy? If the new teaser trailer is any indication, all signs point to yes.

Stop-motion animation may play second fiddle to CG animation when it comes to popularity and box office clout, but there's no denying which one is cooler. Laika, the studio being 'Coraline' and 'Paranorman,' knows just how impressive (and difficult) their work is and they're not shy about showing off in the trailer for their newest film, 'The Boxtrolls.' Although it offers no story and no dialogue

Although CG is the bread and butter of the animation world, there's no denying the appeal of stop-motion, which is so much cooler and tactile than pixels. For this reason, any new project from Laika, the studio behind 'Coraline' and 'ParaNorman,' is instantly on our radar and their upcoming 'The Boxtrolls' is no different.' Although the film is still over a year away, the first teaser has arrived,
