Have you ever seen those movie ads on TV filled with gushing quotes from critics and thought to yourself, “I saw that movie; it was terrible. Where did they find these positive reviews?” If you have, you’re not alone — and you’re going to love ScreenCrush’s newest series, Critics Are Raving!, which balances the cinematic scales with trailers full of slightly more accurate (and slightly more negative) lines from reviews. Real critics. Real quotes. Really bad movies. That’s what’s Critics Are Raving! is all about.

I wonder if history will be kind to the Underworld and Resident Evil franchises. On the one hand, these movies epitomize spectacle over substance, featuring attractive men and women  —  often dressed in skintight leather  —  shooting monsters in a Matrix-inspired slow motion that lags behind the current trend of modern action movies. On the other hand, they are two female-driven action franchises in an era desperately searching for female action stars. Kate Beckinsale and Milla Jovovich may not have the award season pedigree needed to be A-list actors, but they have been carrying two pulpy franchises on their backs for more than a decade.

The wars in the next Underworld movie (can you believe there are five of these now???) are about blood, as evidenced by the subtitle “Blood Wars.” But whose blood? Selene’s, of course, who else’s? According to this new trailer, vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is “the purest of them all,” although she says she’s not that pure. The Lycans have a new leader, and he believes that drinking Selene’s blood will give him powers stronger than any Lycan has ever had before.

Not to confuse you or anything, but this is the first full official trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars — even though you may have understandably thought that the first trailer was, you know, the first one. But that was a “Legacy” trailer, which offered a little recap of the previous films along with a preview of the upcoming sequel. This is a “full official trailer,” which means it’s for Underworld veterans only. No newbies allowed.

You know that the werewolves versus vampires film Underworld has spawned three sequels, with a fourth, Underworld: Blood Wars, coming soon. But did you know that when director Len Wiseman was developing the first Underworld, he got too ambitious with his story? Eventually he realized that his screenplay was getting to dense for one film. Rather than condensing everything to fit into a single movie, he removed whole sections so that they could be used for future sequels. That’s just one of the blood-sucking facts featured in this new episode of You Think You Know Movies!

13 years after the first Underworld movie hit theaters, the vampire and lycan war rages on and yet, somehow, Kate Beckinsale is not exhausted. You’d think that five movies in, Beckinsale’s vampire protagonist might need a quick nap, but nope — someone’s gotta stay in the middle of this battle, which looks to be just as ridiculous and bloody and blue-tinged as ever in the first trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars.

Underworld is one of the more surprisingly enduring film franchises, and after rumors of a potential reboot following 2012's Underworld: Awakening, Kate Beckinsale’s vampire hero Selene is returning for the tentatively-titled Underworld 5. Filming has officially begun in Prague for the upcoming sequel, which features a few familiar faces and a handful of potentially exciting, new ones.

It’s been a few years since Underworld: Awakening, the fourth installment in the horror-action franchise starring Kate Beckinsale as the heroic vampire Selene. While initially it was reported that she would not be returning for the fifth installment in the franchise, which stars Divergent’s Theo James, it would appear that those assumptions were mistaken. Of course Kate Beckinsale is going to be in another Underworld movie. Of course.

A couple of weeks ago we reported on a reboot of the 'Underworld' franchise, which delivered its fourth film -- 'Underworld: Awakening' -- in 2012. But it seems that news was only slightly premature as Lakeshore Entertainment is moving ahead with a sequel, not a reboot, and they're bringing back 'Awakening' star Theo James to reprise the role of vampire David for the fifth film.
