If you’re like me, you probably watched the first trailer for The Layover and thought, “Huh, they’re doing comedy?” The movie offers a strange mix of talent both behind and in front of the camera. William H. Macy isn’t exactly the first name that comes to mind when you think of raunchy sex comedy directors, nor are Lance Krall and David Hornsby household names as writers, but when you look at their combined track records the past few years - a whole bunch of Shameless and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia - the pieces for humor are most definitely there.

The Shameless Season 7 finale could easily have served as the Showtime drama’s swan song, though recent reports of star Emmy Rossum pushing for pay equality in Season 8 tipped a hand that renewal was at least the cards. Now, just hours after airing said finale, Showtime formally confirms that Shameless will be back for Season 8.

It was late last week that word broke of Shameless star Emmy Rossum calling for higher pay than that of co-star William H. Macy, potentially holding up an eighth season renewal. Now, Macy himself weighs in on the conflict, claiming it’s “about f—ing time” Rossum’s salary matched his own, even if he is better looking.

Any Shameless viewer could tell you the series belongs to Emmy Rossum’s Fiona far more than William H. Macy’s Frank, and Season 8 is either going to reflect that, or hit the bricks. Reports indicate that Rossum is pressing for a salary equal to or beyond that of Macy, giving Showtime pause on a Season 8 renewal.
