Tom Cruise Is Probably Gonna Die in These 3 New ‘The Mummy’ Clips
We’re less than a week away from Universal’s latest attempt to launch a Dark Universe, and fans are still uncertain as to what’s in store for their favorite iconic horror characters. With stars like Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe on board, will The Mummy be more action-packed than horrific? Does Cruise have another hit franchise on his hands — to go along with the Mission: Impossible and Jack Reacher films — or will fans wish that this particular mummy had remained dead?
While we’ll find out for sure on Friday, Universal is pulling out all the stops in the week before the film’s release, dropping three new clips (via Heroic Hollywood) from the film for our viewing pleasure. The clips show off the quippy rapport between Cruise and co-star Jake Johnson, the bloody origins of Sofia Boutella’s title character, and Crowe’s pithy comments about being in the business of evil.
Even if The Mummy fails to live up to the promise of its talented cast — man, can you imagine what an action movie starring Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe would’ve looked like ten years ago? — I’m hopeful at least that it’ll be a fun action romp. I’ve mentioned before that there’s nothing quite as fun as a middle-aged Cruise punishing his body in the name of entertainment; when it comes to movies like this, I guess I’m a pretty easy mark.
Here’s the full synopsis for Universal’s Mummy reboot:
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
In addition to aforementioned cast, The Mummy cast will also include Annabelle Wallis and Courtney B. Vance. The franchise will rise from the dead on June 9, 2017.
