‘The Walking Dead’ Season 6 Casts Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Comic Big Bad Negan
The Walking Dead Season 6’s mysterious “Wolves” have only briefly bared their teeth thus far, but the series’ biggest bad of all will soon show his face. After months, even years of speculation, The Walking Dead has finally cast its next big bad Negan with Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
AMC broke word of Supernatural and Watchmen alum Morgan’s casting in the role, confirming that we’d meet the character briefly in Season 6, before spotlighting him in Season 7. Earlier casting reports had tellingly sought the part of “Orin” for the finale, describing the role as:
A physically imposing, charismatic, brutal, smart, ferocious, frightening, hilarious, inappropriate, oddly friendly, fun loving sociopath that is both a leader of men and a killer of men. He has both a practical and emotional intelligence, he’s a brilliant strategist, he’s pure, dangerous, murderous, often gleeful id, that still has both discipline and a code. And he has a temper that can vaporize people. He’s truly one of the strongest personalities ever…
Late last week, Garret Dillahunt set off speculation he might have obtained the role, while it remains unclear how much we’ll see of Negan’s violent group the “Saviors,” who came into mortal conflict with Rick’s group and Alexandria on a number of occasions. Negan also had a famous interaction with Glenn (more on that here), while we’ve seen another famous character preceding Negan on-set already.
We’ll see more of The Walking Dead Season 6 over the coming weeks, before meeting Negan next year, so check out the latest trailers below, and stay tuned for more from cast and crew.
