There's a ton of Oscar buzz surrounding Ang Lee's upcoming adaptation of 'Life of Pi,' but one actor will have to sit out the awards this year: Tobey Maguire has reportedly been cut from the film.

THR reports that Tobey Maguire's appearance in Ang Lee's 'Life of Pi' has been excised from the film because the director felt that it wasn't working out. Maguire played a reporter who interviews the central character of the film. A source close to the production says that Maguire may have been too famous for the film, working among a cast of mostly unknown actors.

Both Maguire and Lee have released statements in response to the news. Maguire says:

I fully support Ang's decision to go a different direction for this role in 'Life of Pi.' Ang shared a lot of the film with me, and what I saw was absolutely beautiful.

Lee responds, "To be consistent with the other casting choices made for the film, I decided to go with an entirely international cast. I very much admire Tobey and look forward to working with him again in the future."

Maguire has been replaced in the film by Rafe Spall of 'Prometheus' and 'Anonymous.'
