SundanceTV’s Top of the Lake proved so successful in its first season that many were keen to leave the series a standalone, but we’re still glad they didn’t. It’s a long way back to the Top of the Lake in 2017, but take a look at the first Season 2 photo with Mad Men ex Elisabeth Moss right now.

The network released a first look at Elisabeth Moss back in her Golden Globe-winning role as Detective Robin Griffin, previewing Season 2 of Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake before its as-yet-unspecified 2017 premiere. Absent are new series stars Gwendoline Christie or Nicole Kidman, but so reads the synopsis:

The second season of “Top of the Lake” is a crime mystery story that begins four years on from the explosive ending of series one. When the unidentified body of an Asian girl washes up on to Sydney’s Bondi Beach the case seems hopeless - until detective Robin Griffin discovers that ‘China Girl’ didn’t die alone.

Campion will once again direct, along with new co-director Ariel Kleiman, with Campion and Gerard Lee returning as co-writers. It could be time yet before we see a Season 2 trailer, but get a glimpse of Top of the Lake in the first season’s trailer below.
