The title of True Pixar Obsessive cannot simply be claimed; it must be earned. And it’s not enough to simply see all the movies, either. A real acolyte of Pixar goes above and beyond in their hopeless devotion to the poignant children’s films that the studio has cranked out over the last decade and a half, contriving new and increasingly demanding ways to show their love. Like the holy pilgrimage of those who follow the Islamic faith to Mecca, heading to Walt Disney World for a go on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is but a single component of adherence to this faith. Morgan and Mason McGrew took their fandom to the next level by immersing themselves in the imaginary world of Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the animate gang through a real-life recreation of the Toy Story 3 sets.

Through their Tumblr account The Pixarist, they posted photos of meticulous recreations of Andy’s room, his younger sister Molly’s room, and playroom at the Sunnyside Daycare, all accurate down to the tiniest detail. Mason and Morgan’s photos show how they took every measure to ensure that the recreation would be as spot-on as possible, from the faux magazines that Molly reads in her room to the various stickers covering Andy’s closet door. They did a little zoom-and-enhance magic on the whiteboard in Andy’s room as well, perfectly mimicking its every scribbling. This isn’t the handiwork of a pair of lunatics, but the scene-setting for an ambitious project. The McGrews are in the process of putting together a shot-for-shot live-action remake of Toy Story 3, matching each image from the original perfectly. (How they’ll pull off the conveyor-belt ride into a fiery hell has yet to be seen.)

Take a gander at some the images via the gallery embedded above (you can see even more here), and below, check out a sneak peek at the finished product, their earnest stop-motion homage.
