Is Winona Ryder having a comeback? Post-'Girl, Interrupted' it was as if she diminished in the light of Angelina Jolie, who won the Oscar in 2000 (while Ryder wasn't even nominated). But in the last couple years she appeared in 'Star Trek,' 'Black Swan' and is now looking to co-star in 'Homefront.'

The film is set to star James Franco and Jason Statham, from a script written by Sylvester Stallone. Yeah, that one. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that "The project, based on a book by Chuck Logan, centers on a an ex-DEA agent (Statham) who moves to a small town in the hope of a quiet life but runs afoul of a villainous meth kingpin named Gator (Franco).  Ryder will play a former biker chick partnered with Franco."

This would be a reunion for Franco and Ryder, who appeared in a movie called 'The Letter' this year, though that film looks to be going straight to VOD.  For those who grew up in the 1980's, Ryder was the smart girl alternative to the bombshells, with such great films as 'Heathers' and 'Beetlejuice.' She was good at working with great directors like Francis Ford Coppola (in the not very good 'Bram Stoker's Dracula') and Martin Scorsese ('The Age of Innocence'), but at some point she either lost interest, or appeared in films that were beneath her. Though she seemed a little off her game in 'Star Trek,' we're happy to have her back.
