Just before Comic-Con 2015, The X-Files made up for its absence with a marathon tease bringing just a fleeting glimpse of Mulder and Scully back in action, and with 2016 growing ever closer, that window is … still opening. One crack at a time. Let’s speculate wildly with 15 seconds of new X-Files footage!

As debuted with tonight’s Wayward Pines (which human people were definitely watching, probably), our newest look at 2016's X-Files event series brings only flashes of cryptic imagery, which we’re completely qualified to analyze and speculate over for minutes to come. There’s a tire! Or an engine? Soldiers! Period soldiers? Doors, and bodies! Needles, and black stuff! Improper poster maintenance! Don’t forget Mulder and Scully, and I think I even saw a bear!

I may not have seen the bear.

Thus far, FOX’s X-Files return has confirmed Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis to reprise their roles beside David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, while Community star Joel McHale will play a conservative pundit who tasks Mulder and Scully with investigating a woman claiming to have been abducted (The Americans star Annet Mahendru). On the creative side, writers and producers Chris Carter, Glen Morgan and Jim Wong will return to write and direct, with Frank Spotnitz also eyed to pitch in, and composer Mark Snow also coming aboard.

Plenty more details will arise in the meantime (in earnest, the soldiers did seem to be encroaching on the same set we’ve seen a downed UFO), but what other wild conspiracy theories can we draw from Mulder and Scully’s 2016 X-Files return footage? Is there a bear after all? I’ve staked my entire reputation on this.
