Xbox One Games to be Region-Free

It turns out that games on the Xbox One won't be held back by pesky little restrictions like region-locking. We can't wait for the flood of imports.

An article on Eurogamer features statements from Microsoft commenting on the news that it will be delaying launch in eight countries. Eurogamer asked if, given the region-free nature of the Xbox One, fans in those eight countries could import them from elsewhere. Microsoft responded by saying that the issue of online payments and local currency would still need to be implemented.

In their statement, Microsoft said, "When the console launches this November, we will support Xbox One in 13 markets. Xbox One may be used in all countries, including the non-launched markets. In addition, Xbox One games are not region locked. Any Xbox One game purchased at retail can be used in any country on any Xbox One."

They followed up by saying that, even though physical games could still work, valid payment methods would still need to be set up in order to purchase content on Xbox Live and that voice support for different languages still needs to be implemented.

But, at the very least, gamers in those  eight countries can rest a little bit easier knowing they can buy an Xbox One from a different nation and start playing the games.
