‘American Horror Story’ Season 4: Patti LaBelle Joins the ‘Freak Show’ Cast
The previous 'American Horror Story' cycle, 'Coven,' cemented creator Ryan Murphy's propensity for oddball pop culture casting, bringing the witchy Stevie Nicks into the fold, and 'Freak Show' is proving to be no different. The latest to join 'American Horror Story' season 4 is none other than legendary singer Patti LaBelle, but will she put her pipes to good use on the 'Freak Show'?
Per TVLine, the Grammy-winning legend won't actually do any singing over the course of her four-episode arc, but rather LaBelle will guest as mother to Gabourey Sidibe's character, "a local townsperson who begins to unravel the murderous secrets of Twisty the clown killer." In other news, the terrifying John Carroll Lynch's terrifying clown character has been given the name of "Twisty." So, there's that.
Set in 1950 Jupiter, Florida, the new ‘Freak Show’ season will see franchise veteran Jessica Lange as a German ex-patriot running one of the last American freak shows, a cast of rescued “unusuals” that also includes ‘Coven‘ and franchise stars Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Sarah Paulson, Denis O’Hare, Evan Peters, Emma Roberts and Frances Conroy. ‘The Shield’ star Michael Chiklis will portray a strongman husband to Bassett’s character, while Wes Bentley will guest in a Halloween arc, among other details teased from Comic-Con 2014.
It may be awhile yet before we see the onslaught of cryptic 'Freak Show' teasers (remember, that first one was fan-made), but what do you think? Could 'American Horror Story: Freak Show' make for the scariest season yet, while we wait for its fall premiere?
