Earlier today we caught a bit of what-if information on The CW's 'Flash,' TV pilot, gauging the fate of Grant Gustin's Barry Allen should the network not move forward with the 'Arrow' spinoff, but in the meantime, 'The Flash' keeps right on casting. 'Ed' star Tom Cavanagh is the latest to sign onto the cast, but does his role have any major DC ties?

Cavanagh will take the role of Harrison Wells, a "rock star in the world of physics" and the driving force behind Central City’s S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator. The lab's explosion made Wells into a pariah, but the unintended creation of the world's fastest man gives Wells inspiration to chart a path to redemption.

The name "Harrison Wells" had even been mentioned during 'Arrow''s midseason finale "Three Ghosts" (the same that saw the particle accelerator explode, triggering Barry's accident), though it doesn't seem to correspond with any specific DC character. It does however, ring closely to "Garrison Slate," known as the founder of S.T.A.R. Labs in the comics.

Elsewhere, ‘The Flash’ has cast in known roles Candice Batton as Iris West, daughter to Jesse L. Martin’s Detective West, along with Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, better known as DC character Vibe. ‘The Vampire Diaries‘ star Rick Cosnett will portray Central City Police transfer Detective Eddie Thawne, who likely corresponds to ‘Flash’ comic villain and time-traveler Eobard Thawne, better known as “Professor Zoom” or “Reverse Flash.” Danielle Panabaker will play Caitlin Snow, a highly intelligent bioengineering expert who lost her fiancé during an explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs and is an incarnation of DC villain Killer Frost.

The CW's 'Flash' pilot has drummed up plenty of buzz with its casting, but what do you think? Will 'The Flash' star in his own series on the CW this coming fall? Check out the character's 'Arrow' origins below, and give us your thoughts in the comments!
