The second Daredevil Season 2 trailer explicitly confirmed that Marvel ninja organization “The Hand” would play a part in Matt Murdock’s next adventures, as did a recent poster. Many also speculated that the footage might hint at a surprise return for Peter Shinkoda’s Season 1 character Nobu, a flame the former Falling Skies star now fans over Twitter.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, and beware some Daredevil Season 1 spoilers as well, but where last we saw Shinkoda’s mysterious martial artist Nobu given a fiery end after a brutal battle with Matt Murdock’s costumed alter-ego, the actor now seemingly hints at the character’s return over social media.

That, or a pretty dedicated ex-cast member took it on himself to aid promotional efforts:

Talk of the same “Rising” was also spoken by an unidentified figure from the second trailer, just about the time editing jolted us away from the identity of another masked figure, one who seemed to utilize Nobu’s distinctive weaponry:

Not to mention the actor’s Twitter response to the trailer itself:

Season 1 never had explicitly confirmed Nobu as a member of The Hand, who themselves were known for mystical practices in the comics, but might Peter Shinkoda’s character return after all? So reads the official Daredevil Season 2 synopsis:

Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.

Bigger problems emerge when Frank Castle, a man looking for vengeance, is reborn as The Punisher, a man who takes justice into his own hands in Matt’s neighborhood. Meanwhile, Matt must balance his duty to his community as a lawyer and his dangerous life as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, facing a life-altering choice that forces him to truly understand what it means to be a hero.
