The Deadwood revival got perhaps its best update yet when stars Kim Dickens and Dayton Callie claimed to have been scheduled, and HBO has good news as well. Top brass have seen the script, and are now working toward making it a reality.

HBO boss Casey Bloys confirmed at the Wendesday TCA press tour panel that he’d finally seen a script from creator David Milch, just as other members of the cast had testified. The project lacks a formal greenlight as of yet, but Bloys indicated that the script was up to code enough to begin the admittedly-difficult process of scheduling the cast, and firming down a production budget:

I read the script. The one thing I was concerned about was that the script would stand on its own. David [Milch] totally delivered on that. It’s a terrific script. If we can do a budget that makes sense for us, find a director and get the cast together, we’re inclined to do it.

Assembling that cast is no small task (minus the late Ralph Richeson and Powers Boothe), as the original series featured Callie, Dickens, W. Earl Brown, Ian McShane, Justified lead Timothy Olyphant, Jessica Jones alum Robin Weigert, Breaking Bad star Anna Gunn, Paula Malcolmson, Molly Parker, and many more. Deadwood ran from 2004 to 2006, showcasing the rise of Deadwood, South Dakota from frontier gold prospecting camp to fully-annexed territory.

There’s no exact timetable for a Deadwood revival yet, but should we take Bloys’ word that the project is finally coming together?
