NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 3 won’t be served until summer 2015, but the fan-favorite Bryan Fuller drama has provided plenty of appetizers to tide us over. The latest juicy morsel will see ‘True Detective’ and ‘Boardwalk Empire’ baddie Glenn Fleshler taking yet another villainous role as ‘Hannibal’'s incarnation of literary character (and Mason Verger’s caretaker) Cordell.

Per TVLine, Fleshler (man, even the name is creepy) will guest star as the “quiet, very intelligent and definitely creepy” personal nurse to Mason Verger (Joe Anderson, replacing Michael Pitt). In addition to being attentive and gentle with his disfigured psychopathic sadist boss, Fleshler’s Cordell is described as a professional who cares about his work, even if he might be every bit as sadistic as his employer, as well as “a perfect fit to become his potential henchman.”

Also worth noting is that frequent genre star Željko Ivanek played the role in Ridley Scott‘s 2001 adaptation of Thomas Harris’ literary ‘Hannibal’ novel, albeit in an expanded role to cover the film’s omission of Verger’s sister Margot. As Katharine Isabelle’s Margot Verger has already carved out (heh) a strong presence within NBC’s ‘Hannibal,’ it remains to be seen how the “remix” approach will influence Glenn Fleshler’s Cordell.

Most recently adding ‘The Hobbit’’s Richard Armitage, ‘True Blood’ star Rutina Wesley and Nina Arianda as ‘Red Dragon’'s Francis Dolarhyde, Reba McClane and Molly, respectively, we know of ‘Hannibal’ season 3 that Gillian Anderson has been upgraded to series regular as Dr. Bedelia du Maurier, last cryptically seen flying alongside Hannibal in the post-credits tag of season 2 finale bloodbath “Mizumono.” Raul Esparza will return to the role of Dr. Frederick Chilton, and Bryan Fuller suggested Eddie Izzard could return to the role of the late Dr. Abel Gideon as well.

The new season will pick up sometime later with Hannibal and Bedelia’s new life on the lam, also incorporating such other literary Thomas Harris figures as ‘Hannibal’ novel character Inspector Rinaldo Pazzi. Additionally, ‘Batman vs. Superman’ and ‘The Wolverine’ star Tao Okamoto has been confirmed to play the role of Hannibal’s “aunt” Lady Murasaki (or her attendant “Chiyo,” it’s a bit confusing).

We’ve included the ‘Hannibal’ season 3 trailer again below, but what say you? Are you excited to see the NBC drama tackle multiple generations of Thomas Harris stories when the series returns this summer? How might Glenn Fleshler’s Cordell differ from previous iterations? Give us your darkly delicious predictions for NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ in the comments!
