Just when you thought the live-action Marvel Universe couldn't get any bigger, along came Brett Dalton.  New reports indicate that the 'Blue Bloods' star has landed a role in Joss Whedon and  ABC's forthcoming 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series, portraying yet another member of the up and coming squad.  The series, set to shoot its pilot next year will operate within the same cinematic universe as 'The Avengers,' but focus largely on original characters.  What "deadly" new character will Brett Dalton bring to life for the 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series?  Details inside!

Easily one of the most anticipated new shows of 2013, Joss Whedon's 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' TV series pilot has added yet another to its ranks, casting 'Army Wives' and 'Blue Bloods' actor Brett Dalton as a new agent.  As initially reported by TVLine, Dalton will take the role of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Grant, said to be deadly and precise, but somewhat lacking in his people skills.

In addition to the fan-celebrated resurrection of Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson and casting of 'ER' vet Ming-Na, the hotly-anticipated series also features Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker as science wiz Agent Gemma Simmons and weapons expert Agent Leo Fitz.

Directed by Joss, the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series will see the ‘Avengers’ director writing the script with brother Jed Whedon, with Jed’s wife Maurisa Tancharoen directing as well. Recent reports put the pilot episode as filming in January, for a potential fall 2013 debut.

What say you?  Are you still psyched for the ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ TV series?  What characters and stars would you like to see appear?
