Fans of USA breakout drama Mr. Robot are already anxious enough to find if Season 2 can capture the same cerebral madness as its predecessor, let alone what to make of a third season, or the two mapped out beyond that. Ahead of Season 2 at least, we know Season 3 will target a fairly imposing figure, with an eye toward casting Michael Shannon in the role.

Take this with a grain of salt for the moment. as Mr. Robot Season 2 has only gotten about midway through filming, but a recent Zap2It profile with series star Rami Malek saw a bit of insight into creator Sam Esmail’s process as well. The evidently-sleepless showrunner will direct all ten episodes this year, but is already looking ahead to Season 3, and hoping Man of Steel star Michael Shannon will fly back to TV for a role. Says Malek:

The other day we were talking about Michael Shannon, and Sam said, ‘I really want to use him for this role I’m writing for Season 3' …and I’m like, ‘You’re already there? That’s the head space you’re in? I need you right here. Episode 3 of Season 2.’

Now set for a July 13 premiere, Season 2 additions include Aasif Mandvi, Craig Robinson, Grace Gummer as Dominique (Dom) DiPierro, a young FBI field agent investigating the Evil Corp Hack, Chris Conroy as Derek, the new man in Joanna’s life, and rapper Joey Bada$$ as Leon, a new close friend of Elliot’s. Fear The Walking Dead alum Sandrine Holt, Michael Maize, Dorothi Fox and Luke Robertson have also secured guest roles.

Additionally, both Michael Cristofer and Stephanie Corneliussen have joined the cast full time, the former in his role as Evil Corp CEO Phillip Price, and the latter as Tyrell Wellick’s increasingly-frightful spouse Joanna. Ben Rappaport and Tom Riis Farrell will also return as Ollie and Bill.

More details will likely emerge in the coming weeks, so watch the first trailer again below, check out some viral promos, and stay tuned for the latest on Mr. Robot Season 2.
