Netflix caused a bit of a surprise this week in announcing that their original 'Turbo' TV series would mark the first of its original programming to not debut all at once, but its prized 'House of Cards' needn't worry about an interrupted return. The Kevin Spacey-Robin Wright political thriller has set its official season 2 return for 2014, along with a new teaser for the smoky future ahead!
The brief 30-second teaser posted to the 'House of Cards' Tumblr page doesn't show off very much, essentially just Robin Wright's Claire Underwood character stylistically smoking in the apartment, though its ending offers a bit more specificity. 'House of Cards' season 2 will officially premiere in its entirety on the Netflix streaming service beginning Valentine's day, February 14, 2014.
Says the official logline for the season:
In the second season, Francis (Spacey) and Claire (Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara, “American Horror Story”), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill, “The Good Wife”) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney, “Southland”) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers -- past and present -- to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.
Elsewhere, we know relatively little of ‘House of Cards' season 2 beyond a series regular promotion for Michael Gill (President Garrett Walker), and the loss of director David Fincher. In Fincher’s absence, Emmy nominee Robin Wright will step behind the camera to helm episodes of the political series, as will ‘Orange Is the New Black’ guest director Jodie Foster, Carl Franklin ('Homeland'), James Foley ('Glengarry Glen Ross') and John David Coles ('Justified').
We're still waiting for news of a potential third season, but what say you? Will you sit out this Valentine's Day to watch 'House of Cards' season 2 in its entirety? Let's hear that snazzy theme song just one more time, and check out the Tumblr teaser at the link above!
