Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’ Officially Renewed for Season 3

Netflix House of Cards Season 3 Renewal 2015

Netflix breakout original drama ‘House of Cards‘ broke more than a few hearts when news of its second season likely closing out the series broke, though thankfully the streaming service dug its claws into Frank Underwood just a little longer. Just before the season 2 premiere, Netflix has confirmed that Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright will return for ‘House of Cards’ season 3!

Robin Wright herself broke news of the impending third season at a ‘House of Cards’ season 2 press day, adding that filming would commence in the near future. Netflix officially confirmed the news, though an exact airdate on the third season has not been set in stone.

‘House of Cards’ represented Netflix’s first major push into original content, as the streaming service plunked down an impressive amount to lock Spacey and director David Fincher into two 13-episode seasons off the bat. Series star Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright’s ever-demanding film careers made prospects of a third season somewhat murky, even as Netflix head Ted Sarandos made clear his interest in expanding beyond the original order.

‘House of Cards’ season 2 will see the newly added Sam Page (‘Mad Men‘) and Jimmi Simpson (‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘), a series regular promotion for Michael Gill (President Garrett Walker), and the loss of director David Fincher. In Fincher’s absence, Emmy nominee Robin Wright will step behind the camera to helm episodes of the political series, as will ‘Orange Is the New Blackguest director Jodie Foster, Carl Franklin (‘Homeland‘), James Foley (‘Glengarry Glen Ross’) and John David Coles (‘Justified‘).

The second year of Frank Underwood’s rise to power will premiere in its entirety February 14, but in the meantime, check out the trailer for ‘House of Cards’ season 2 below, and tell us what you’d want to see from future seasons!
