However much polish its first season might have used, Sony PlayStation’s Powers isn’t having trouble attracting name actors and sci-fi icons. Following Michael Madsen’s SuperShock-ing role last week, Battlestar Galactica icon Tricia Helfer has joined the series for Season 2, but will she be suiting up?

Per Sony’s official announcement, Helfer will play FBI Special Agent Lange, who “like the comic book character, shares a history and palpable sexual tension with Detective Walker (Sharlto Copley). Lange walks a fine line between the Powers world and the government, and can be both ally and enemy when it suits her agenda.”

Having recently begun production in Atlanta, Powers Season 2 will also feature Michael Madsen in the role of “SuperShock,” one of the world’s most famous and mysterious superheroes After retiring at the height of his career under mysterious circumstances and disappearing from public view, he emerges for the first time in forty years after the death of Retro Girl.

So reads Powers Season 2's new synopsis:

Powers, an edgy dramatic series inspired by the graphic novel series of the same name, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with extraordinary abilities, referred to as “Powers.”

Set amidst today’s paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, what if the world was full of superheroes who aren’t actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?

The new season will delve into the storyline made famous by the first comic “Who Killed Retro Girl?” as the Powers Division investigates the shocking murder of the world famous superhero (played by Michelle Forbes) and the mysteries that her death uncovers.

Powers will return in 2016 to the Sony PlayStation Network, with Falling Skies alum Remi Aubuchon taking up showrunning duties fulltime. Additionally, Ben Edlund (Supernatural, Angel, Firefly and creator of The Tick) will join the writing staff.
