Will the madness of 'Smash' season 2 never end?  The hit NBC series won't debut its re-vamped second season until sometime in mid-season, yet the casting news seems to come at no end.  Late last week we learned that Broadway vet and 'Law & Order' alum Jesse L. Martin would take a recurring role in the upcoming season, and now it seems 'Smash' has spritzed up another musical theatre star in 'Hairspray's Nikki Blonsky, but why is the role being kept so under wraps?

Yet another well known musical star has signed up for 'Smash' season 2, confirms The Hollywood Reporter, as 'Hairspray' movie star Nikki Blonsky has landed a recurring role for the show's 2013 sophomore run.  Curiously, details of the role are being kept under wraps for now, though the article notes Blonsky won't be playing herself.  However, her 'Smash' role reunites the actress with 'Hairspray' producers Neil Meron and Craig Zadan.

Having been discovered in an ice cream shop for the role of big-screen 'Hairspray's Tracy Turnblad, Blonsky joins  Martin, Debra Messing’s former ‘Will & Grace’ star Sean Hayes, Krysta Rodriguez as Karen’s new roommate Ana,  Andy Mientus, ‘Newsies’ star Jeremy Jordan, and ‘American Idol’ vet Jennifer Hudson.  As previously reported, season 2 will also see the departure of show-runner and creator Theresa Rebeck, with former ‘Gossip Girl‘ EP Josh Safran stepping in.

Blonsky's soon-to-be 'Smash' co-star and ensemble member Wes Brown, first revealed the casting via Twitter, posting a picture of himself wigging out with Blonsky on set.  Check out the photo, and tell us what you think of all the recent 'Smash' season 2 castings in the comments!
