Star Wars Rebels has already cemented a major Rogue One connection ahead, though fans of either might have caught the various easter eggs sprinkled throughout this weekend’s film. Now, Lucasfilm reveals a closer look at said Rebels cameos, while producers discuss revisiting Rogue One in a future season.

Even as an earlier TV spot let on that Rebels’ Ghost would be flying among the fleet, Entertainment Weekly debuted actual stills featuring the animated series’ translation into live action. Rebels supervising producer Dave Filoni also confirmed that the “General Syndulla” referenced over the intercom is indeed Hera (rather than her father, Cham), while you can see the Ghost parked below:

Mind you, the Lucasfilm story group consulted with Filoni to make sure that Hera, Chopper and the Ghost would still be around by the time of Rogue One (gulp, Kanan and Ezra), but could Rebels actually get around to depicting the film’s events in a future season? According to Filoni, they’ve given it some thought:

I already have some theories about the story behind it. I can imagine doing that entire [Scarif] battle from their point of view, whoever is on the Ghost at that point.

After all, there’s no reason to presume that Star Wars Rebels couldn’t come to overlap with Rogue One and beyond, even if we never saw any hint of the characters in the original films. Animated predecessor Star Wars: The Clone Wars ran close to six seasons before the merger with Disney sealed its fate, while Rebels Season 3 is currently only three or so years before the events of Rogue One.

We’ll at least see Saw Gerrera’s return (including Forest Whitaker!) with “Ghosts of Geonosis” in 2017, but will Rebels and the films’ relationship continue?
