There are only so many Star Wars characters rich and popular enough to anchor their own spinoff film, and from the moment Disney and Lucasfilm announced they would be pairing the new Episodes VII through IX with so-called Anthology films, fans have speculated which of those characters might receive their own spotlight. Top of just about every list: Han Solo, the beloved, amoral bounty hunter and captain of the Millennium Falcon. The first announced Anthology movie, Star Wars: Rogue One, will focus on the story of the Rebel fighters who stole the plans for the original Death Star that become crucial to the plot of the first Star Wars. The second Anthology, per The Hollywood Reporter, will give Han Solo that showcase that so many nerds want.

As producers, writers and directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller are one hell of a team, taking ideas that seemed sort of ridiculous and delivering hugely entertaining and successful franchises…which is why it makes sense that every major studio wants to get in the Lord and Miller business. The duo are attached to develop The Flash solo movie for WB, as well as an animated Spider-Man film for Sony. That’s not news — what is news is Lord’s revelation that both projects will operate a bit independently from their larger franchises.

It was rumored a while back during the big Sony e-mail hack that the studio was eyeing Phil Lord and Chris Miller for an animated Spider-Man film. Now that Sony and Marvel have reached an agreement to cross the web-slinger over into the MCU, some progress is being made in the realm of Spidey, and the studio has officially confirmed The LEGO Movie duo for a new animated project — one that will be part of the new continuity.

Last week it was rumored that Warner Bros. had their eye on The LEGO Movie writing/directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller to help with The Flash solo film. FOX has officially renewed The Last Man on Earth for Season 2, keeping Phil Miller in his increasingly-less private hell through 2016.

22 Jump Street might have the funniest end-credits sequence ever, in which directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller effectively ran the franchise into the ground with a series of fake sequels, including Flight School, Medical School and Art School, just to name a few. Here was a sequel no one thought could measure up to a movie no one thought could be that good, and Lord and Miller played on the notion of endless sequels with increasingly absurd ideas to extend their franchise, satisfying studio and fan demands. And now those fake sequels will officially become part of Jump Street cannon for 23 Jump Street.

Following their massive success with the Jump Street franchise and The LEGO Movie, just about everyone wants to get into the Phil Lord and Chris Miller business. The duo have proven their value with both animated and live-action features (as well as pulling off the near-impossible by making a great comedy sequel), so it’s hardly surprising to hear that Warner Bros. is seeking the pair to join the DC Universe.
